Just when you thought that dead horse was kicked enough, someone reminds you its lying on the ground over there, and that someone intends to go kick it!
Mike Myers is working on an Austin Powers 4. The film is not greenlit (I imagine a hell of a pitch would be required to get a studio behind this) but Jay Roach may direct.
Director
Jay Roach tells MTV that Myers is already working on ideas for the film, and that he’d jump right into the franchise again.“Mike gave me my first shot directing on Austin Powers 1. Just said, ‘Hey, you should direct this movie,’ when I hadn’t directed much of anything. So I love that group of people and what could be better than going back into that.”
A few years ago, there was some talk that a fourth movie should (and very well could) be more about Dr. Evil, and I think that’s where the future is the brightest.
I am hesitant to get behind anything comedy from the crazy recesses of Mike Myers mind. The guy has a lot of great comedy ideas and they just flow from his mind to the page. But I think the series is just tired.
Love Guru was very much in the same groove of Myers comedy, and it fell hard. Is the world ready for more “Thats just Groovy baby! You make me so Randy!” ? I don’t think so.
But approaching it as a Doctor Evil film would be interesting. Take the over the top Austen Powers out of the picture entirely. Have the film be about Scott Evil, and Doctor Evil trying to be good but not knowing how to do it since everything he does is Evil.
Scott Evil could be the new Dr Evil (possibly getting his Doctorate online – Evil people do stuff like that)
But leave Austin out in the cold. I don’t need to see that character anymore. Goldmember was a bad character, and Fat Bastard was a one trick pony ridden one to many times.
I’d welcome another movie from this franchise, but only if done right. Otherwise it will just be leftover jokes that didn’t make the first movie. Which is all the sequels were.
