Since the High School Musical franchise seemed to peter out and the clones (Band Slam, Camp Rock etc) all flopped, it looked like we might never see High School Musical 4 featuring some of the younger cast carrying the torch.
But now Ashley Tisday is returning to the fold to reprise her role as Sharpay Evans in Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure.
Ashley will exec produce as well as star in the bound-for-Broadway tale (who arrived in Midtown Manhattan as a recent winner of So You Think You’re America’s Most Talented Performing Idol). Written by Robert Horn (producer of Broadway’s 13 and writer/producer of Designing Women), the pic has Barry Rosenbush and Bill Borden (both of the High School Musical movies) also exec producing. Filming starts this summer.
I love the irony that in the film, Sharpay will be coming off the success of a ridiculously titled reality TV talent show in a desperate attempt to salvage Ashley Tisdale’s career.
She has done well with her music career certifying her album as Gold, but still the biggest success she has had is with the High School Musical movies.
I imagine this will be targeted at the Disney Channel crowd of tweens, but the music was just so damned catchy in the franchise that I might be forced to check this out.
You know…. for my kids.
