Emily Blunt has twice been considered for roles in Marvel Superhero films, and she talks about why she turned them down.
“I’m a big supporter of [director] Joe Johnston and I think that ‘Captain America’ is going to be really fun and I gather that the story is really interesting,” said Blunt. “It just wasn’t what I wanted to do next, to be honest.”
She continued: “There’s definitely a high commitment level and I’m not someone who likes to plan too much ahead. That would also be an issue for me as well. I think for me the job always has to be the right thing at the right time. Neither of them happened to be that.”
That wasn’t at all vague. “I just don’t wanna” seems to be the final verdict there.
As much as I think Blunt would have been great as the love interest in a World War 2 Captain America film, she would have been playing the love interest in an era the Cap leaves behind. Not much of a commitment there, but she was likely referring to the role of Black Widow in Iron Man 2 (that she declined) that would have kept her around.
Sounds like she just doesn’t dig the superhero roles.
