It appears that Tim Burton’s adventure fantasy, Alice in Wonderland, will cross the $1 billion mark on Thursday (tomorrow). In doing so, it positions itself in a separate/particular bunch of movies that have done so. Which ones? Well, just five other ones – Avatar, Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Dead Man’s Chest and The Dark Knight. The film has made more than $332 million domestically and $667 million internationally. It’s Disney’s second-highest to date behind POTC: Dead Man’s Chest ($1.07 billion July 2006)
Disney’s 3D phenom Alice in Wonderland on Thursday will become the sixth movie to cross $1 billion in worldwide boxoffice and the first spring release to do so.
I’m really surprised that it will become the sixth movie in history to surpass this milestone. I mean, it was ok – I was entertained, but it wasn’t anything “wow”. I enjoyed the visuals a lot, but I was just not that into it going in and definitely not that into it going out.
I have no problem with the other five movies in this special bunch, but Alice in Wonderland…really, c’mon? The 3D incentive ($$$) sure did help it…because it was far from being an awesome film experience.
What do you guys think? Do you feel it’s worthy of the category?
