Brett Ratner’s X-Men 3: The Last Stand was my least favourite X-Men film, but I didn’t hate it. But it seems Ratner’s experience of doing the third of the franchise wasn’t his favourite experience.
In announcing that its obvious that he wont ever do another X-Men film, he states that he is starting a script on another comic franchise. Rob Liefeld’s Youngblood.
Get the Big Picture quotes Ratner:
“I’m working on the script,” Ratner tells MTV. “Youngblood will be something I do in the future, whether it’s next year or whatever. I’m never going to do another X-Men obviously, and I’m not doing any more with Rush Hour.”
He continues, “But to do a new franchise, I don’t care what the budget is — even if it was small — but it would be exciting because then I could start my own franchise.”
Youngblood is made by the biggest hack in comics, and Ratner isn’t exactly setting his sights high to strike out with a franchise he can call his own.
If you are unfamiliar with Youngblood, imagine that Hawkeye was the leader of the Avengers, replace the minor characters with copies of OTHER popular Marvel superheroes then squint your eyes, apply the drawing ability of a 12 year old and you will have Youngblood.
It would however be something that would be his own.
Maybe he can do it some justice. Liefeld never did.
