Captain America is looking to sign up for the 3D club, and Thor is getting an honourary status card for the same organization (in post) which means future Marvel films will likely follow in line.
“Thor” is already in production, meaning it would have to be converted into 3-D in post, but “First Avenger: Captain America” and “The Avengers” could potentially be filmed with 3-D cameras.
Now I like to see these big visual pieces in 3D and it would add some wow factor to the film. I don’t mind hearing visual effects heavy films being put to 3D.
I worry for Thor as Marvel seems to be jumping the bandwagon with the effect, and while there wasn’t enough time to make Iron Man 2 3D in post, they are applying that layer to Thor before it hits the big screens. Post 3D doesn’t always translate well.
Cap however looks to be getting filmed using proper 3D cameras. And while his trademarked throwing sheild action might make for some neat 3D scenes I don’t know that we will see that in the first World War 2 centric film.
3D isn’t going away anytime soon, but you can always go see it in traditional presentation if you want. There has been no indication that theaters are moving exclusively 3D even if some studio execs are predictiong it.
Until its perfected and can be viewed by all patrons, they wont risk excluding a demographic. They are trying to EXPAND that demographic.
