Looks like Drew Barrymore really enjoyed the shift to director, and while not giving up on acting altogether, she is looking at another film to direct. This one might be a faux sequel to The Wizard of Oz, once again taking a new look at a classic film.
Warner Bros and Flower Films are resurrecting Surrender Dorothy, and Flower head Drew Barrymore will make this her second directorial feature (following Whip It).
This film started brewing all the way back in 2002, and back then, Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction) had written a script that would have Barrymore star. She was to play the great, great grandaughter of Dorothy, who has to pull out the antique ruby red slippers to smack down the Wicked Witch of the West, who wants to control both Oz and Earth.
How close to this 2002 script this prospective film would be is unclear.
But I would like to see Barrymore take on directing another film. I just don’t know that she sells a movie for me as a star anymore. I kind of hope she doesn’t cast herself in this.
