Seems that Journey to the Center of the Earth is slated for a sequel but franchise star Brendan Fraser won’t be involved with the next chapter. Why? Because director Eric Brevig is too busy to return in time for WB’s schedule.
Warner Bros. wants the film to be ready for the fall of 2011, but director Eric Brevig is busy with Yogi Bear, and Brendan Fraser “felt strongly” about doing the sequel with him. So now Brad Peyton (Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore) is in as director, Fraser is backing out, and New Line and Walden Media are trying to rejig the film to star Josh Hutcherson.
Now granted, I havent seen much with Eric Brevig in the comfy chair. Oh that’s right because Journey to the Center of the Earth was his first feature film. So granted, it would make sense that they might approach him for the sequel, but timing wasnt right so the deal is off.
Maybe Fraser has strong feelings about Brad Petyon getting hired? He might have said “Brad Peyton? Why can’t we just get the last guy who did it for the sequel? No? Ok, I’m done here.”
But leave it to the integrity of the man who signed on for Furry Vengeance to suddenly get a spine over a new director taking over the franchise.
