Orlando Bloom starred in two of the most profitable trilogies in movie history. Yes, the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Pirates of the Caribbean saga. Since 2007’s last POTC movie, he hasn’t starred in any major releases. Mr. Bloom thinks it’s time for a comeback of sorts, so he has officially signed on to star in The Three Musketeers.
The Three Musketeers will be directed by Paul WS Anderson, and is scheduled to be released in 3D on summer 2011. It includes a cast with the likes of Christoph Waltz, Logan Lerman, Mads Mikkelsen, Milla Jovovich, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans and Matthew MacFadyen.
It seems that Bloom’s character, the Duke of Buckingham, will be less of a villain and more of a “arch-nemesis” to the Musketeers who’s literally described as “so cool that you can chop him into ice cubes and serve with vodka.”
To me this is interesting news. Why? Because Bloom has always been cast for the hero part; or at least, to ride alongside the good guys. Never have I seen him play an evil character. It’s an interesting part for him. From what I remember, he has always done a decent job when being part of the “good” posse like in LOTR, POTC, Black Hawk Down (I liked him in the most recent New York, I Love You). But, I also remember that he just can’t hold a film’s lead, like in The Kingdom of Heaven & Elizabethtown. We haven’t seen him do anything big recently, so maybe this evil turn helps giving us a new & refreshing take on his acting.
What do you guys think of “Legolas” going bad?
