The Three Musketeers will be returning to the big screen, this time at the hands of Paul WS Anderson. While that alone has me wondering, the cast looks to be shaping up alright… well mostly.
Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson & the Olympians) is in negotiations to play D’Artagnan; Ray Stevenson (The Book of Eli) as Porthos; Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans) as Athos; Matthew MacFadyen (Pride and Prejudice) as Aramis; Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) as Cardinal Richelieu; Mads Mikkelsen (Clash of the Titans) as Rochefort; Milla Jovovich (Anderson’s wife and star of the Resident Evil films) as Milady de Winter who is described as ’17th century Bond girl’ and Orlando Bloom as the film’s nemesis, the Duke of Buckingham.
Ok, they had me on the fence until they said Orlando Bloom as the Duke of Buckingham.
Really? Bloom doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who could carry a lead badguy role like this. He exudes vulnerability and wide eyed optimism, but I just dont see this as a good fit.
Of course Anderson not only has boinking rights to Milla Jovovich, but once again he makes sure she is handy by staring her in one of his films.
I am skeptical about this cast (especially Bloom) and I will reserve judgement to see a trailer or something first.
And that it appears they are exploring the same adventure that was presented in the Disney Muskateers is discouraging. I would sooner see them hit up a different time in the Musketeers adventures and give us something new. Dumas’ D’Artagnan Romances tell more stories than just this and the Man in the Iron Mask.
