The fourth entry in the Bourne franchise is going to happen, even if it’s with or without it’s star, Matt Damon, or it’s director, Paul Greengrass. The franchise, which has grossed over $944 million worldwide, has hired one of their own writers; one that has worked on all three prior films.
Universal has hired writer Tony Gilroy to work on a fourth installment of the globetrotting asskicker, tentatively titled THE BOURNE LEGACY. Gilroy, who has worked on all three prior movies, will scrap previous drafts for a fourth movie, as well as ignore the Bourne novel of the same name. The studio apparently wants another chapter of their lucrative espionage franchise in theaters for 2012.
Damon has been saying for sometime that he wouldn’t come back for another round, if Greengrass wasn’t back directing. Greengrass has been saying all along that he wasn’t coming back, because he wanted to focus on other films. Then recently, both of them joined for 2010’s Green Zone. Overall, many thought it was kind of watching a fourth Bourne film – just not as effective for the audience, nor at the box office.
I’m guessing the studio is betting on Mr. Gilroy delivering an awesome script. This way, they could manage hooking both Damon and Greengrass to come back. I mean, say what you want, but it’s too much money we are talking about. At the end of the day, this is a business. They’ve made 944 million dollars with this franchise. Get a great script, get Damon and Greengrass back to make Bourne 4, and you’ve got = another awesome sequel that makes approx. 450 million worldwide.
What do you guys think? Do you want to see a Bourne 4 with Damon/Greengrass? Or do you mind seeing one without both? Then who would you re-cast for the role?
