Marvel already has their dance card full trying to bring about the major players that will inevitably make a splash in the Avengers, but they are also keeping the doors open to explore some of the lesser knowns to feature films. This studio they have formed (and now with the power of Disneybucks) has a wealth of backstories and a full library to feed into film adaptations.
The next on their plate after Avengers seems to be the Sorcerer Supreme – Doctor Strange!
It looks like Dr. Strange is headed to the big screen. Marvel Studios has announced plans for a full length film based on the character, and has hired Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to work on the screenplay.
These are the same guys who are currently handling Conan, so I imagine they will have a hand in the mysticism and cult worship presented in that world, but it will be interesting to see how they handle Doctor Strange.
I have never been much of a Doctor Strange fan, as he never seemed to have much of a presence of personality to me. As the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel Universe, he typically was only ever called on to hover over a pentagram and fix something that was wrong with the magical world with some latin and gummiberry juice. Or just tossed in to punctuate how something magical coudlnt be done. I mean he is the Sorcerer Supreme! When he steps into panel and says “I cannot help you here” you know you are frakked!
But as Danny mentioned in the Marvel post yesterday, Jonathan Frakes would be a PERFECT fit for this guy, and I hope that in some inspired casting choice they get him to play Dr Strange!
Just sayin.
