I imagine that the cast and crew of Moneyball are a little uneasy as just over a month away from filming the movie they decided AGAIN to rewrite the script.
Steve Zaillian wrote the script. They then hired Aaron Sorkin to re-write it, and now they fired him and hired a new writer… wait. Not new. Steve Zailian is back on board to write the script. In a month.
Obsessed with Film says:
Zaillian’s original replacement – Oscar winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men) and his multiples drafts (they say as many as five!!) have now been trashed, and Columbia are spending even more gold on bringing back the guy who’s screenplay they decided not to go with in the first place. Incredible.
Re-writes always make me nervous. On one hand they may be fixing something and making it better, but sometimes when we hear the way things were supposed to go, and wish they hadn’t. Clash of the Titans and Robin Hood are two recent examples where I wish I saw the original planned script.
Moneyball will feature Brad Pitt as Oakland A’s Manager Billy Beane who used complex statistical data to draft the perfect team.
