With Lauren Donner Schuler spearheading the movement to get Wonder Woman movie made, I have hope that it just might happen.
And on top of that, after 600 issues of the busty superheroine’s existance, DC has decided that Diana Prince needs a bit of a makeover and will be getting a new costume, and slightly altered origin story.

Wonder Woman’s new costume looks exactly like what you might expect if the WONDER WOMAN movie ever made it to the big screen. Gone are the red bustiere and the so-called hooker boots. Instead it’s a rather demure and modern outfit that Lee and Straczynski hope will allow the character to blend in a little better with modern society. It also was created to match with her new background that changes the character slightly. Instead of growing up on Paradise Island, like her DC brother Superman she was now shipped off to America as a baby.
While the statement in the article sounds like Superman was her brother and grew up on Paradise Island, I believe he is suggesting that much like Superman’s origins, she will have grown up not knowing she was different and will grow into her role.
I am not sure how this will be handled in the book, but altering histories in the DC Universe is hardly a new thing. This is one of the issues I have with DC comics, as the backstory and intertwining histories of the characters are not static and always seem to be changing.
So if they do make a Wonder Woman movie, its likely that it will be in line with the existing franchises like Batman and Green Lantern, adding her bosom to the lineup for a Justice League movie. (Nolan be damned, his Batman and Superman can co-exist) And while there is a LOT of backstory to fall on, I would imagine that DC/WB would want a new film to be based on the current re-invention of the character.
I personally think this costume would translate better to the big screen. As wank worthy as Wonder Woman’s outfit was, I was always conflicted that she was to represent that a woman can be strong and make it in the “man’s world” and her costume made her look like a Vegas stripper.
I like this new Wonder Woman and I will be sure to pick up the new title as soon as it comes out to see how they handle her new history.
