Studio Ghibli is just filled with whimsical beauty and wonderment and now not satisfied with creating amazing films, they have now joined forces with Level-5 to create a video game!
The game is called Ni no Kuni (The Another World) and so far is for the DS this year and the PS3 in 2011. It has lovely computer animation that runs in real time and looks like a Ghibli movie. Just beautiful.
The player assumes the role of a 13 year-old boy named Oliver, a resident of Hotroit city whose mother Arie dies suddenly. A doll previously given to Oliver by his mother reveals itself to be a male fairy named Shizuku, who gives Oliver a magic book that allows him to go to the world of “Ninokuni,” a reality parallel to his own, where the fairy states the boy may be able to revive his mother. There he encounters alternate versions of people he knows.
The game looks like it really captures the magic of Studio Ghibli finally adapted to playable form. I will be keeping my eyes out for this one.
Also somehow this evaded me, but there is a trailer online of the new Studio Ghibli for their latest cinematic masterpiece in the making: The Borrowers!
Now that looks amazing, and like everything Ghibli, I cannot wait to see it.
