If you happen to be at San Diego Comic Con between the hours of 1:15pm to 2pm on the Thursday of the event you might see the most dedicated of God’s warriors out there protesting
Apparently these heathens who worship the work of their own hands are an abomination to God and need to be spoken out against by the church. Briefly. They only have about 45 minutes to spare before they go extert their superior morality on someone else, or maybe actually do something effective with their time.
“Are you kidding?! If these people would spend even some of the energy that they spend on these comic books, reading the Bible, well no high hopes here. They have turned comic book characters into idols, and worship them they do! Isaiah 2:8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: 9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not. It is time to put away the silly vanities and turn to God like you mean it. The destruction of this nation is imminent – so start calling on Batman and Superman now, see if they can pull you from the mess that you have created with all your silly idolatry.”
I think public protest is the most ineffective way to get your message across especially in a day and age of communication. Back when public gathering was the only way for the masses to have their voices heard it was probably very helpful for government to see them organize and speak with one voice. But now they are just chanting groups of people easier to ignore than the latest penis enlargement spam offer in your email. And the most offensive of protests sadly comes from well meaning church goers.
Protesting the Comic Con for worshipping Superman and Batman? I think these thumpers are taking it a bit too far. Yes, these people are celebrating their fandom, but in these isolated events where they may dress up or get excited about a new comic or upcoming film is hardly the devils work!
Mind you the fundamentalists will say its a foothold to greater distancing me from God – Comics, the gateway drug of athiesm!!
