We humble and unneccesarily polite people up here in Canada have been getting the short end of the stick for too long.
And now Netflix will be leveling the playing field by offering their popular streaming service in Canada.
Netflix plans to launch its streaming service in Canada this fall. The company offered few details on how the service will be implemented. Customers will be forced to pay a “low monthly fee” for access to the service.
Netflix said its service will work on both PCs and Macs, as well as “a range of consumer electronic devices capable of streaming from Netflix.” Ostensibly, that means the HDTVs, set-top boxes, and game consoles that currently support Netflix streaming, but the company didn’t specify.
Estimated to be in full swing sometime in August, this is what Canada has been waiting for. Well Canadians jealous of their American neighbours enjoying streaming media via set top boxes and supported game consoles anyways.
For those not in the know, Netflix – who introduced the world to mail order dvd rentals – has a service that allows you to legally download and stream movies and select TV series as part of their subscription service. However this service is not available in Canada – yet.
I predicted a long time ago that the future of DVD rentals and TV Episodes would be found with OnDemand type streaming services. If you make the service inexpensive and easy, people will line up.
And I am first in line in Canada to get this new service!
I cannot tell you how excited I am about this.
