Blu Tuesday – DVD and Bluray Release Report Aug 3rd

A little light on the new releases, and among the more popular ones out there, I have only one to add to my collection.

Check out a few of the new releases this week:

Kick-AssCheck out our Review

KICK-ASS tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name—Kick-Ass—assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers whatsoever.

I loved the hell out of this movie. Chloe Moretz and Nic Cage make this movie awesome and it was filmed mostly in my hometown. This is already on my shelf.

Ghost Writer

When a successful British ghostwriter, The Ghost (Ewan McGregor), agrees to complete the memoirs of former British Prime Minister Adam Lang (Brosnan), his agent assures him it’s the opportunity of a lifetime. But the project seems doomed from the start—not least because his predecessor on the project, Lang’s long-term aide, died in a suspicious accident.
The Ghost flies out to work on the project, in the middle of winter, to an oceanfront house on an island off the U.S. Eastern seaboard. But the day after he arrives, a former British cabinet minister accuses Lang of authorizing the illegal seizure of suspected terrorists and handing them over for torture by the CIA—a war crime.
The controversy brings reporters and protesters swarming to the island mansion where Lang is staying with his wife, Ruth (Olivia Williams), and his personal assistant (and mistress), Ameila (Kim Cattrall). As The Ghost works, he begins to uncover clues suggesting his predecessor may have stumbled on a dark secret linking Lang to the CIA—and that somehow this information is hidden in the manuscript he left behind. Was Lang in the service of the American intelligence agency while he was Prime Minister? Was The Ghost’s predecessor murdered because of the appalling truth he uncovered?

Looks interesting enough for a rental, and I never was inspired to see it in theaters. But I like all the actors involved, so I will likely get around to it.

Diary of a Wimpy KidCheck out our Review

To Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon), middle school is the dumbest idea ever invented. It’s a place rigged with hundreds of social landmines, not the least of which are morons, wedgies, swirlies, bullies, lunchtime banishment to the cafeteria floor—and a festering piece of cheese with nuclear cooties. To survive the never-ending ordeal and attain the recognition and status he feels he so richly deserves, Greg devises an endless series of can’t-miss schemes, all of which, of course, go awry. And he’s getting it all down on paper, via a diary—”it’s NOT a diary, it’s a journal!” Greg insists, preferring the less-sissyfied designation—filled with his opinions, thoughts, tales of family trials and tribulations, and (would-be) schoolyard triumphs. “One day when I’m famous,” writes Greg, “I’ll have better things to do than answer peoples’ stupid questions all day.” So was born the Wimpy Kid’s diary.

The movie was ok, but nothing special that will warm my heart. I wont be buying it, and after seeing it once I don’t need to rent it either.

So what are you picking up this week?
