Jason Statham was quickly lining himself up as the next big action star, but then the anticipated wave of superhits for him seemed to fizzle.
But he still is pushing out action films, just not the hits we anticpated.
With The Expendables coming out this coming weekend we will get another taste of the Statham kickassery, but remember when he was staring in the remake of the 1972 Bronson film The Mechanic? It saw a trailer and then hit limbo.
CBS Films has picked up the distrubution rights and we will finally get to see The Mechanic.
CBS Films has picked up the U.S. distribution for the film which is planned for a Spring 2011 release. Richard Wenk and Lewis John Carlino wrote the screenplay, it’s a remake of the 1972 action thriller starring Charles Bronson, THE MECHANIC follows an elite hit man (Statham) as he teaches his trade to an apprentice (Foster) who has a connection to one of his previous victims, but then it becomes clear that he’s double-crossed and forced to survive.
Now aside from the Statham charm I expect from this film, his co-star is Ben Foster who is rapidly hitting my radar as well.
He was phenomenal in The Messenger, and I think we have only seen the beginning for this guy. He commands a presence and I am more eager to see what he does in this than Statham.
Check out the Trailer while you are at it:
