The main draw of the Fan Expo will always be the celebrity guests, and though this year is fraught with controversy, the guest lineup appeared pretty solid. However once I was there, I only ventured over to the autograph area a few times to get some photos and a quick hello and was only really excited to see Summer Glau and Felicia Day. I don’t much care for autographs, however Stan Lee was a treat, and most guests were fun to talk to.
Here is a snapshot of the celebrity guests we saw this year.
Stan “The Man” Lee – diety of modern comics and really cool guy. Real class act!
Michael Dorn comes face to face with an action figure brought for him to sign.
Ernest Borgnine (McHale’s Navy and upcoming RED)
Peter Mayhew – Chewbacca. I could tell you just how tall this guy is, but experiencing seeing him in person is uncanny. He is just shy of 7’2″
and yes, he walks with a cane that looks like a lightsaber!
James Marsters was as charming as ever. Very nice guy.
The very infectious and beautiful Felicia Day with her Guild co-star Amy Okuda
Summer Glau is even prettier in person
Dollhouse and BattleStar Galactica’s Tahmoh Penikett
Christian Potenza – Jude from 6Teen
He is also the Toothbrush guy in the Evil Gingivitis Listerine ads and the “Lets get Naked” guy from a Toastido ad. This of course I realized after I left the event.
This guy was just a lot of fun and the shows he does are not so childish I want to rake out my eyes, so I like watching them with my kids. He has had some live action roles as well, and he took the time to talk to me about his upcoming show Sidekicks and gave me some cool stuff for my kids, so I am sharing it here:
And a short bit he did that I found amusing!
Adam West and Burt Ward
I didn’t get a shot of Julie Newmar, but we caught up to Adam West and Burt Ward during the photo op by the Batmobile replica. Adam West posed for a shot for us and was very nice about getting his picture taken but Burt Ward decided that he was too important to sacrifice that millisecond of his existence to get a picture taken and got vocal about us media types taking his picture without paying for it.
Oh well Mr Forgotten celebrity that wouldn’t matter if Adam West wasn’t there. You don’t need the publicity then. What a douche. Sendhil Ramamurthy was equally as unco-operative despite walking right past our booth to get to his Space interview. He held his hand to his face to avoid photos.
But being neighbours with Space was interesting as we got to see Ryan Robins of Caprica and Sanctuary got David Blue of Stargate Universe to autograph his ass during a panel.
Stay Classy Robbins! We love you just the way you are!
