Jim Carrey’s last big screen effort came in 2008’s Yes Man (Awesome comedy!). His next film due, I Love You Phillip Morris, has been stuck in the “hollywood phantom zone” for quite some time now. It could be possible that we won’t get any Carrey films in a while. Consequently, studios have been lining up with scripts and projects for him to choose and do from. Some of these are: Larry Charles comedy Pierre Pierre, the children’s book adaptation Mr. Popper’s Penguins, and a remake of the musical Damn Yankees. Now Summit Entertainment has entered into the picture with an enticing option.
According to Pajiba, the studio is recruiting Carrey for the Amy Talkington-scripted Under Cover, which centers on a recently divorced father who joins a “youthful cover band” to fund a custody battle against his ex-wife.
I love Jim Carrey; he’s one of my all-time favorite actors. I can totally see him doing this and nailing it. If done right, this could be another great comedy with a heart a la Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty and Yes Man. School of Rock comes to mind. Of all the projects he’s looking at, I think this one would be good for him. Also, I’m looking forward to seeing I Love You Phillip Morris. Whatever happened to that one?
What do you guys think? Carrey in a youth cover band? Which is your favorite Jim Carrey film?
