We have heard rumours about Blunt being tossed around the Marvel casting offices for a while now, and as she is rejecting one offer it seemed to be in favour of the next. Speculation on what those roles would be seem to hinge on the last and Marvel seems determined to put her in a film.
Marvel will try to cast Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) for the third time, after the actress declined offers to play the Black Widow in “Iron Man 2” and Peggy Carter in “Captain America: The First Avengers.”
The studio is now in talks with Blunt to star as a villain in the third “Iron Man” film. The paper said: “They are desperate to have Emily as the villain in the next ‘Iron Man’ film and will continue to have Gwyneth [Paltrow] playing Pepper, though she wont feature in ‘The Avengers’.”
Now the article goes on to say that there was some sort of bitterness on the set between Paltrow and Johansson resulting in casting Paltrow in Iron Man 3 and moving Johnasson to The Avengers.
Uh… no. That is not at all why they characters are not going to be in the same films together. Widow was never meant to be a supporting Iron Man cast member, but rather introduced in Iron Man so they could establish her for her role in The Avengers. I don’t see at all why they figure this is manoevering to keep the two stars happy. This was always the plan before Scarlett was even cast.
But Blunt as one of the villains in Iron Man 3? I wonder exactly who she would be. Perhaps a member of AIM (they are fond of acronyms) Advanced Idea Mechanics which is a terrorist organization that utilizes and steals advanced technology. Or maybe Madame Masque who is yet another love interest for Stark, whose father is an aristocratic supervillain Count Nefaria?
