Weekend Boxoffice Report Sept 17th-19th

The Town just dominated the boxoffice this weekend, and it was a pretty good showing for a number of Opening films with four out of five of the top spots going to films in their first week.

Boxoffice Mojo

The Town – $23,800,000 – Opening
Easy A – $18,200,000 – Opening
Devil – $12,584,000 – Opening
Resident Evil: Afterlife – $10,100,000 – 2wks
Alpha and Omega – $9,200,000 – Opening

I was very surprised to see Alpha and Omega even break the top 5 this week, and clinging on to that fifth spot is the best they can hope for, I think. Just nothing about that movie made me want to see it.

However Easy A is the closest real competition to Ben Affleck’s The Town and there is a good stone’s throw between them.

The Shamhammer’s Devil managed to outrun his reputation still giving it a decent showing at the boxoffice. Now the film was based on one of his short stories, but he did not write the screenplay or direct it so he was at armslength of it despite his name giving people hesitation.

So what did you see this weekend?
