Seems classic collections are all the buzz this week with both Back to the Future and Alien Anthology collections hitting the retail shelves. There are even some other films coming out, but I am still drooling over my Back to the Future 25th Anniversary Bluray Trilogy set.
Back to the Future 25th Annniversary Bluray Trilogy
In 1985, Doc Brown invents time travel; in 1955, Marty McFly accidentally prevents his parents from meeting, putting his own existence at stake. But in the sequel it’s Marty’s kids who are at risk and he has to race into the future to once again right the timeline. Then in its third chapter Marty must travel back to the wild west to save his mentor Doc Brown who has set to retire there. And all this in one boxed set gathering the giant adventure into one convenient set masterfully upgrading the film quality and littered with tons of special features.
Heavy! This will be mine. Oh wait… already is.
The Girl who Played with Fire
The new film sees Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace) and crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nyqvist) once again caught up in a brutal murder investigation. Having served his prison sentence, Blomkvist returns to Millennium intent on exposing a billion dollar sex trafficking ring. When two of his researchers are murdered, Salander is framed for the murders and emerges as the police’s chief suspect. Unconvinced, Blomkvist attempts to track her down and find out the truth. But secretive hacker Salander goes on the run and soon stumbles upon secrets of her own past.
I still haven’t got around to seeing the first film of this series. Maybe I will just wait for them all to come out on blu here, then make the inevitable comparison to the Hollywood remakes already in the works.
Sex and the City 2
The fun, the fashion, the friendship: Sex and the City 2 brings it all back and more as Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) take another bite out of The Big Apple—and beyond—carrying on with their busy lives and loves in a sequel that truly sparkles.
What happens after you say “I do?” Life is everything the ladies ever wished it to be, but it wouldn’t be Sex and the City if life didn’t hold a few more surprises… this time in the form of a glamorous, sun-drenched adventure that whisks the women away from New York to one of the most luxurious, exotic and vivid places on earth, where the party never ends and there’s something mysterious around every corner. It’s an escape that comes exactly at the right moment for the four friends, who are finding themselves in—and fighting against—the traditional roles of marriage, motherhood and more.
Clearly not my cup of tea. Its not even the right cup. I won’t be buying this.
Alien Anthology Bluray
The Alien Anthology is a truly unique home entertainment experience. For the first time ever, the studio has united the material from every home video release of the Alien saga including the 1991/1992 laserdisc releases, the 1999 “Legacy” release and 2003’s groundbreaking Alien Quadrilogy release into one complete Blu-ray collection. The set also includes two versions of each film and over four hours of previously unreleased exclusive material such as original screen tests of Sigourney Weaver prior to filming the original Alien, unseen deleted scenes, thousands of still photographs from the Fox archives, the previously unseen original cut of “Wreckage and Rage: The Making of Alien3,” and much, much more.
I loved the first two but my appreciation dwindled as the franchise dragged on. At least this anthology only has the Alien films and not the Aliens Vs Predator films too. I will probably pick this up, but I am in no hurry.
So what’s making your “must have” list this week?
