The SanDiego Comic Con has outgrown its own title, scantly known for its comics any more, but a gathering of all breeds of fandom and a lot about the related movies that appeal to that demographic.
Not only that, the massive media event has outgrown its facilities, and word had it they were shopping for a more appropriate venue. But after negotiations took place and the dust settled, SSDC has signed on to remain in place until 2015.
After a great deal of back and forth about possibly moving the San Diego Comic Con to another city, such as Anaheim, the con has decided to stay put. The organization had previously been contracted to do business in San Diego through 2012, and the imminent end of that period kickstarted speculation about moving. Now a new three-year deal will keep the con in its home city of San Diego until 2015.
This makes a lot of sense for SanDiego who had a LOT to lose if the event up and left. Not saying that their entire tourism is hinging on it, but its one of the biggest events to take place in the city all year.
I have been struggling with the urge to do SDCC and the over crowding issues alone have kept me from attending. I am all cool with a massive event but reports of jam packed event rooms and shoulder to shoulder aisles with a demographic that may or may not shower make me hesitant.
Perhaps next year.
