Mark Millar’s recent Icon Imprint title “Superior” has already been getting a lot of attention and may soon become a feature film. The titular character Superior is an homage to Superman, and of the two studio teams pitching to produce it both have their dream casting in mind. Jon Hamm.
MillarWorld (Mark Millar’s personal blog) says:
But get this: Both guys had casting ideas already and suggested the same dude: Mister Jon Hamm from Mad Men, whom I absolutely love. This is by no means guaranteed casting, but interesting that they both suggested the same guy. Will keep you posted as events happen, but I think this could be an interesting week. Stay tuned.
Mark Millar’s tribute book Superior is a creator owned comic book that features a popular teenage boy who “had it all” until he was stricken with Multiple Sclerosis and now restricted to a wheelchair. Late one night an alien monkey offers him a magic wish and he is transformed into Superior – a movie hero featured within the book (that is an homage to Superman)
What first seems like a dream come true is suddenly problematic as he looks like the actor who played Superior in the movies, and his parents have the police at their house thinking their son has been abducted.
Now Jon Hamm has been repeatedly brought up as a potential for the next Superman reboot, however considering it is an origin story, it is unlikely that they would go with a 40 year old actor for the role. I could see him in an Alex Ross Kingdom Come story with a little salt and pepper in the hair, but for the reboot he just doesn’t fit.
But it sounds like he COULD fit for Superior, and would be playing a Superman type character. If the process goes as they hope it might.
