One of the things that makes The Muppet Movies so magical is that they just co-exist with humans, so while Jason Segel is already starring alongside the Muppets in the Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made, we get word that there are other people types being courted.
Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, and Rashida Jones are reported very close to signing on to the project. “Adams would play Segal’s girlfriend, Cooper would play the greedy villain, and Jones would play an ABC executive.” The plot involves the Muppets getting their show back together in order to save a movie studio. Cooper wants to buy the studio so he can drill for oil underneath its property
I was already sold when I heard that the Muppets were coming back and Jason Segel (who does not hide his Muppet love) was attached to this project.
Now adding the affectiously adorable Amy Adams? And Chris Cooper playing an unscrupulous villain with ambitions set on the theater’s land? Awesome. Rashida Jones I could take or leave. She doesn’t do much for me. I hope this actually happens.
I just hope they have Statler and Waldorf in there somewhere heckling the show. They were last seen watching the rebooted Muppet Show from their nursing home.
