I was quite surprised after the success of the semi-rebooted Star Trek that they didnt dive head first into fast tracking a sequel. It was only a matter of time before JJ Abrams and the newly introduced crew of the Starship Enterprise would be on yet another adventure. A new script is anticipated in the next coming months and the studio wants to get to work.
But JJ Abrams hasn’t signed on to the sequel yet.
Abrams, who directed the first Star Trek, is currently busy filming his secret project Super 8. The script for the second Star Trek movie will reportedly be finished by Christmas and the studio is eager to begin production.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Viacom COO Tom Dooley declared that he would like to have Abrams return for the sequel. He also revealed that a decision on Star Trek 2’s director can be expected soon.
I guess much like Nolan’s Batman, when a film has that much success, people just assume that they would want the same director to continue on.
I would like to see JJ Abrams return. No reason not to. And still could happen, but its not a foregone conclusion just yet.
But they can leave the lens flares alone (or at least a lot less of them)
Who could you see taking on Trek 2 if Abrams doesn’t sign on?
