Every year around this time people start to predict who might be at the Oscars, but also we start to wonder who they will get to host the event.
Well word has leaked that the offer went out to James Franco and Anne Hathaway to double team the event and it looks like they have accepted.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has asked James Franco and Anne Hathaway to host the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony, according to an announcement Monday (Nov. 29).
Franco and Hathaway each have a movie out right now, Franco’s “127 Hours” and Hathaway’s “Love and Other Drugs.” Both films have been getting good reviews. Franco has even been in the conversation for an Oscar nomination, while Hathaway is considered more of a long shot
This is not official yet, but it makes you wonder.
While I think that Anne Hathaway certainly has the charm, class and presence to host the Oscars, I just can’t see Frano up there. He has always struck me as a stoner and not the element I would expect them to front as their spokesmodel.
I have nothing against Franco as an actor, in fact I enjoy his work a lot and his 127 Hours is getting him a lot of nomination buzz. But the Oscars isn’t an acting gig. It presents the actor as himself.
Maybe Oscars are trying to get edgy by dual hosting again. Hopefully their lines are not as cardboard scripted as Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin – two of the funniest guys out there who fell flat while hosting.
The Oscars air February 27th, 2011.
