While just yesterday we got wind that the Kree-Skrull war was going to be the basis of The Avengers film, it turns out that tidbit of information leaked in an Albuquerque Journal article was not backed up by facts.
While the article features quotes from people involved with bringing the production to New Mexico, there is no confirmation that the Albuquerque Journal got this story information from Marvel Studios or Disney, so we’ll have to wait and see if they are indeed going this route.
So while there seems to be a hell of a lot of sites claiming the statement was “debunked” it is more accurate to say that there is nothing at all to validate it.
No one from the Marvel camp has come right out and said “Avengers isn’t about the Kree-Skrull war” but when the reporter that let spill this rumoured plotline as fact was asked who told him that, he was left with nothing to back it up.
So it is debunked that the journalist was the first to break this plot spilling news, but still no one has said its not either. He could have accidentally tripped over the news.
But I don’t think he did. I honestly expect the Avenger’s first mission together is going to be to reign in the Hulk.
(I also secretly hope it ends with them making the tough decision to put him in a rocketship and send him to a far off planet to live in peace invariably setting forth the events of World War Hulk – but that wont happen either)
