Rumour had composer Hans Zimmer set to compose the theme to Superman in the rebooted series after careful speculation connected his involvement in scoring Batman, Jon Nolan’s godfathering of the project and that he has worked with Snyder as well in the past.
But Zimmer says it isn’t happening. Moreso, he woudln’t dare.
Right! John Williams, the greatest living composer — full stop. And that happens to be one of his greatest themes. So no. And I’m not thinking of rewriting Beethoven’s ninth either. It just sounds like a thankless task, you know? So that’s unequivocally a no. I have never spoken with Zack Snyder.
Honestly, I wonder if they would just get John Williams to tweak his score and just use the Superman Anthem.
Even in Smallville, a distant paralell “what if” of the Superman story uses overtones that are very clearly a tribute to the rich heroic theme that is Superman.
The song is timeless, and it would be fitting to hear a variation on this theme. Zimmer is right.. you can’t touch this.
I don’t envy the guy they hire and the look on his face when they say “now do something better”
