With all the trouble surrounding Mel Gibson’s personal life, it seemed a casualty of that strife was going to be Jodie Foster’s The Beaver would never see the big screen. Delay after delay on the shoulders of Gibson’s public life seemed to sentence the film to limbo.
But now it is announced that Summit will bring the movie out for wide release in theaters in Spring next year.
Summit Entertainment has scheduled a Spring 2011 release date for the film that stars Mel Gibson as a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life. According to the official synopsis, Walter Black (Gibson) was once a successful toy executive and family man who now suffers from depression. No matter what he tries, Walter can’t seem to get himself back on track … until a beaver hand puppet enters his life.
Gibson plays damaged goods really well, and we are starting to learn why, but I just felt bad that his efforts on this movie were never going to be seen because of his personal life.
I have always liked Gibson as an actor, and there was a lot of anticipation leading up to this film, but thankfully we will get a chance to see it this spring.
Do you think the public will have forgotten about Gibson’s personal issues by then, or at least put them aside to see this film?
