Considering the competition it is not a surprise that Harry Potter and Tangled are holding on to their ranks, but I was surprised that Tangled won out on top. I guess all those people who saw Potter in the first couple weeks are hitting up the animated feature.
Boxoffice Mojo has the estimates:
Tangled – $21,500,000 – 2wks
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 – $16,735,000 – 3wks
Burlesqu – $6,100,000 – 2wks
Unstoppable – $6,100,000 – 4wks
Love and Other Drugs – $5,700,000 – 2wks
What is interesting is that no first week showings even broke the Top 5. The overly stylized Warrior’s Way has not been trending well, and while only getting half the screens that Tangled occupied, managed to secure the number Nine spot.
But Black Swan which I reviewed favourably will be a real contender when it hits its wide release next weekend. The very limited release still garnered the film $1.3million.
