After months of back and forth over MGM’s financial situation, the 23rd James Bond film is now back in production and has reserved a November 9, 2012 release date!
Daniel Craig will be returning as the legendary British secret agent, with Sam Mendes directing a screenplay written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan. That script is being kept under wraps. The reason for the 007 delay is because it took that long for MGM’s future to sort itself out what with the failed auction sale of the studio, then the pre-packaged bankruptcy getting approval, and eventually Spyglass taking over studio filmmaking.
This is exciting! Daniel Craig’s casting was a lot like Michael Keaton as Batman for me- I was baffled and against it until I saw the film, and now completely love him in the role. His bond is so much more physical and intense than previous incarnations, and has served to really update and reinvigorate the franchise. It’s also wonderful MGM could get out of its mess in time to have this film in the can for November of 2012, as Bond celebrates its 50th Anniversary next year!
