Kevin Smith to Stop Directing

At the Sundance premiere of his new film, “Red State,” Kevin Smith announced he would no longer be directing films. This following his strange performance leading up to the film’s premiere in which he first wanted fans to fund the film through donations, then refused to do any press or trailers for the film and then faking an auction to sell distribution rights at the Sundance festival so that he could announce he was buying the distribution rights himself for $20. He now intends to travel the country with the movie, self-releasing it as he tours and offering discounted rates to theatre owners to show the film in a limited number of theatres.

WorstPreviews reports:

Smith ended the event by stating that he plans to direct “Hit Somebody” with mostly the same cast as “Red State” and then quit directing forever. He’ll instead focus on producing and distribution.

Has Smith gone Randy Quaid on all of us?

Or is he bucking a system that really needs bucking?
