Mean Girls Director Will Get Back To Where He Once Belonged

Director Mark Waters next film will be a sci-fi comedy dealing with time travel. The protagonists of the new film will save the world…well, no, they will simply attempt to keep Yoko Ono away from John Lennon, so The Beatles won’t break up. To some, that *is* saving * the world. Or giving peace a chance.

Geeks Of Doom gives us:

Mark Waters, director of Mean Girls, Freaky Friday, and The Spiderwick Chronicles, is currently in line to helm Get Back, a comedy about two diehard Beatles fans who discover a time machine and use it to travel back in time to change a major event in John Lennon‘s life.

It’s a comedy, and I can see some potential out of it- but only if the “die hard fans” (who most likely won’t be in their 20s) go back to see a concert or two they missed out on, or get an autograph for a collection- and indirectly change things accidentally such as John never meeting Yoko. Then there’s a debate if this is for the better or worse. But as it stands all these two want to do is stop the John-Yoko union, which doesn’t make sense.

Yoko also owns rights to John’s image/likeness, so that also could be a problem. That’s not part of the story; that’s a reality.

So, what do you think? Interested in Get Back’?
