I have to say that despite the bad buzz I am reading in the comments about Green Lantern, I am still holding out hope that the film will be better than the impression we got in the Trailer. Most of what I am hearing is people complaining about the Uniform, which I happen to think looks great – so I am not lead away from my anticipation. I am a little concerned about Reynold’s Trademark Snark however.
That being said, DC plans on releasing a series of four one-shot comics that tie into the film each focusing on different characters before the events of the film.

I am really eager to see how they handle Sinestro’s back story. In this movie Sinestro is not the villain so much of his presence in the movie at all should be about his back story. Sinestro is a Corp member in the early days and is tossed when Hal Jordan complains about his radical leadership methods. I wonder if they will show Sinestro in these prequel comics as being a feared protector of his sector?
And of course it should be interesting to find out who Abin Sur was, and how his relationships with other Corp members will impact how Hal Jordan is accepted. For instance, Tomar-Re was very close to Sur, which makes his mentorship of Hal bittersweet as he is training him to be a Lantern only BECAUSE his close friend died.
And Kilowog is always cool.
I remember back when Independence Day came out and they made prequel comics to that. I had no idea what the importance of these characters were, but reading the leadup comic after seeing the film made them have a lot more significance.
I look forward to these particular prequels as it not only will give us some added background, but also shed some light on how the movie versions of these characters will be handled.
