The production of MIB 3 has been delayed longer than expected after taking a hiatus for the holidays. The studio says it’s because of tax incentives, weather and exterior shots needed. An insider says it’s the script. Regardless, the film, which stars the original Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, alongside Josh Brolin (playing young Tommy Lee Jones from the past), has already shot most of the film that takes place in the present. The delay is only affecting the 1969 part of the story. No word on if this will force a release date change.
After a hiatus of nearly two months, “Men in Black III,” the third installment in the sci-fi/comedy franchise, was to resume production this week in New York. But studio Sony and the film’s producers have pushed back the production date again. Shooting is now delayed to March 28 owing to ongoing script issues, according to a person close to the 3-D production who was not authorized to speak about it publicly.
I love sequels that wait nearly ten years to come out. There’s always a freshness to them that simple passage of time creates. There’s also always a fear about if they can still pull off what they did so long ago. I think, overall, I’m looking forward to this. A lot of others certainly are. The original two films combined grossed over $1.03 BILLION worldwide.
