The Crow Flies Again?

‘The Crow’ reboot wants to rise from the dead again if 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo signs on. Screenrant informs the unsuspecting masses:

Fresnadillo is currently completing post-production duties on his new horror-thriller Intruders and has already met with Relativity executives to discuss the possibility of him bringing the gothic vigilante Eric Draven back to the big screen for a new generation.

There is no possible way to know if Nick Cave’s last draft of The Crow Reboot will be used or not; sometimes when a director parts ways with a project, in this case, Stephen Norrington, such scripts get tossed aside or rewritten.

The word is the new Crow will be ‘more gritty’ which I find laughable because I thought the Proyas’ 1994 film was a bit on the gloomy and dark side, but what do I know. Of all the proposed reboots out there, this I can sort of see- but only if there is more of a direct adaptation from James O’Barr’s graphic novel (carjacking; not forced eviction; there is no Hangman’s Joke band and we see Skull Cowboy help Draven on his journey)…but as much as I would not mind that- or even a new Crow film overall…I still throw down a gauntlet. take out the supernatual-occult aspect out of the loop, and it is an average revenge picture, and nothing more.

In fact, part of the success of the 94 film wasn’t just Proyas’ style, but the late Brandon Lee. I don’t care which way you want to butter it up, there’s no other way to explain the failure of the sequels (and mildly okay) short lived TV series. They just kept repeating the gags, and with revenge pictures, there’s nothing much at stake other than simple payback. So, again, if- and only *if* they don’t go back and do a direct adaptation of the source, then my interest is minimal- and I don’t care who’s in the director’s chair.

Any of you still eager to see more of a boy and his bird?
