After taking on vampires in Summit’s Twilight Saga, writer Melissa Rosenberg is tackling a different kind of immortal being: Scottish highlanders.
The scribe is in negotiations to come on board to work on the studio’s remake of Highlander. Neal Moritz is producing the project, which offers an update on the 1986 movie starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown. Justin Lin (Fast Five) is attached to direct. Peter Davis is also producing.
Now before anyone starts assembling the pitchforks, torches, and screaming that Vampires Suck try to keep in mind that the woman also wrote the popular Showtime series “Dexter” which has a creepy balance of blood, sex, and action. She also wrote a few episodes of “Hercules: The Legendary Journey’s” and “Birds of Prey” which aren’t the most recent or best examples of how to execute a Highlander movie but the woman does have some variety to her resume.
I loved the first Highlander movie, and as a Kid I loved the adventures of Quentin MacLeod. I have a mild interest in this series and would love to see the mythos and world of Highlander return to prominence. Probably wouldn’t hurt if they use some of those songs fromQueen either.
