Darren Aronofsky Leaves The Wolverine

Get ready for highly disappointing news for those of us who were anticipating Darren’s approach to the X-Men character. Today we learn that Mr. Aronofsky has decided, and announced, that he will not direct ‘the Wolverine’ movie.

“I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won’t be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again,”…

This falls right in line with many of life’s disappointing moments, like finding out your high school prom date has cramps. Darren Aronofsky’s name being associated with the Wolverine movie has long been a comforting, and re-assuring, name for fans of the character as we looked forward to his approach to the ‘ol canuckle head and his acclaimed adventures in Japan. I’m flabbergasted by the news, but I have to respect his reasons for not participating as director.

International friends: if not Aronofsky then who?

  1. Disappointing? Hardly. Best news I heard all day. Seriously. I really had doubts over Aronofsky.
As to who could replace him…

Well, for starters, let’s rule out filming in Japan for the time being. I would love it as much as you if they shot there, but I would be on the fence about that considering the tragic events this past week. I’ll still hold out a little hope.

I’ll roll dice on either Joe Carnahan or writer Chris McQuarrie (who also directed Way Of The Gun). If I played a Wild Card: Ryuhei Kitamura

      1. Me too! the guy who directed Godzilla Final Wars is cool with me BUT for a film like this that got hacked to pieces the 1st time out (not to mention an unfinished film that went viral!)would be too much a gamble for the studio IMO.

The Way of the Gun: IMO was a bad film. the only good part was the beginning when they punched Sarah Silverman in the face for being a loud-mouth Bit$h.

        Just sayin’
Big time Downer with this news

  2. I’m sure they’ll get some hack like Gavin Hood to replace him. What are the chances they get a director of his caliber to step in. My guess is slim.

  3. I don’t believe him for a second that his family is why he is not doing this project. To become a hollywood director you give up time with your family and friends and have some talent their are many talented directors out there that don’t work in the business for that reason or leave it after a film or two.

Any ways I don’t trust this news something is wrong with the script or the studio wants to much input.

  4. Now that you mention it, There seems to be a slight funk to the air.

Was this going to actually film in Japan? or green screened in Vancuver?

Sucks ballz though, looks like he saw the final product and didn’t want to tarnish his filmography or somethin’.
either way I can respect his decision. and look forward to his next project.

  5. That is dissapointing. I guess my next choice would be Matthew Vaughn. I have high hopes for the next X-men film, and I think he would be a great choice for Wolverine.
