Selina Kyle: Blonde or Brunette?

I was browsing through Yahoo movies to try to fill the void of a slow news day when I noticed that the cast photo’s for the L.A. Premiere of ‘Rio’ were posted online. Regular stuff, right? Then I saw a pic that showcased a brighter tint to Anne Hathaway’s hair color and some uncommonly seen pair of glasses.

Admittedly, her hair looks a bit darker when not in direct sunlight but nowhere near quite as dark as what she usually sports. She didn’t have this hair color for the premiere in Brazil. I’m going to go out on a limb here and presume that this was done for Chris Nolan’s flick. I checked out her IMDB and her Wiki but didn’t see anything to explain would require her to change her hair color so it’s either Batman or maybe it’s simply personal preference.

In all honesty this is probably just a sick result of my imagination going haywire on me. Happy Mundaze everyone. I never really gave it too much thought but most fans will remember Michelle Pfeiffer’s portrayel of a blonde Catwoman while in the comics she’s decisively brunette. I wonder if it even matters and if so, which would I prefer. I dont know. I’m not sure I like Hathaway as a blonde, and I really like Hathaway so I guess I need an expert opinion.

  1. All of you are making judgement a little too early. I remember when The Joker was announced for Dark Knight and it was between Ledger, Adrien Brody, and Crispin Glover. I remember that there was a big fan following for Crispin Glover and Adrien Brody behind him but everyone questioned Ledger being selected when the selection was made. In hindsight I think most people would still agree that Ledger would have been their first choice.

I am skeptical of Catwoman, I am skeptical of Bane, I am skeptical of the juggling of multiple villains, I am skeptical of the curse of the trilogy, but when it comes down to it…I am not skeptical of Nolan’s abilities. He works his ass off to create masterpieces and I trust in Nolan more than my skepticism…trust in Nolan, all will be well…

  2. Selina Kyle sometimes appear to sport blonde hair especially in campy Batman 60s also in her earlier incarnation. But comic fans mostly remember her as raven haired, not brunette, anyway.

  3. I’ll take a wait and see approach. I’m not a Catwoman fan, but Nolan wowed me with his version of the Joker and I wasn’t a Joker fan either.

  4. Tbh, if I had things my way, she’d have the short dark hair from the comics. Her costume for the last few years is perfect, even if it is impractical (But seriously, how many superhero costumes ARE practical?).

I never liked Michelle Pfeiffer’s version of catwoman, but it was kind of before my time.

and to Fontez: We still don’t know her story. She may have martial arts training or whatever, and Nolan can do whatever he wants, regardless of your personal feelings. So calm down, I’m sure you will enjoy the movie!

Ps, Hathaway is totally sexy, you crazy man!

  5. I don’t think it matters much… She’s still going to be a really shitty Catwoman.

Catwoman doesn’t even make logical sense in Nolan’s world. How can you logically explain a woman running around in a leather suit in the streets of Gotham against a ferociously powerful and genius level man, who has not only studied every martial art, but has unlimited financial resources at his disposal, providing him with the most high tech armor, weapons and equipment imaginable… Seriously! It just can’t be justified and doesn’t make any sense.

And if I HAD to choose someone to play Catwoman, Anne Hathaway would have been the last person on my list. I would have chosen someone darker, sexier, older and much more mature, like Kate Beckinsale.

If anyone disagree’s with me then please explain thoroughly…

    1. Has it been confirmed that we will actually see Catwoman on screen? I know its easy to assume that, and we may very well see her, but Im not sure that its confirmed.

Also, I do think Nolan has accumulated a little creative capital in terms of how well Ra’s Al Ghul, Scarecrow and Joker all came across on screen. I trust Nolan to make Catwoman work, if she appears…

    2. If a billionaire can dress like a bat, and a psychopathic madman as a grungy clown, why not a professional jewel thief as a cat. Also, let’s not forget a psychopharmacologist who dons what appears to be a burlap shack over his head. ;-)

Nolan makes it all work, so I have faith in his judgment.

As far as Blonde or Brunette goes, doesn’t matter to me so long as Nolan captures the essence of the character like he’s done with everyone else.

    3. Well, Kate Beckinsale wouldnt be my top choice for Selina Kyle either. Personally I would have gone for someone like Christina Ricci, I just think her quirky persona would have fit perfect with the Catwoman character.

Either way I think Nolan will make it work as others have said.

    4. First of all, Catwoman is not Batman nemesis per se’. She is more like adversary that have relationship closer to him than… well everyone else. She is not entirely badguy anyway. Just someone who walking on the grey side. I believe their attraction to each other will be games in the movie, as Batman doesn’t have any female love interest anymore. Not to mention the possibility of love triangle if Thalia al Gul come into play (just like in the comic). Off course i’m pretty sure Nolan wouldn’t play this card right away. In all she actually make sense in Nolanverse, as she is streetsmart jewel thief/cat burglar, which is quite common crime on real world.

    5. Who knows….Nolan could play her as a neurotic personality or stalker who becomes catwoman as a means to meet Batman and began a relationship with him. I agree I don’t thing Anne fits the role if she’s supposed to be this aggressive, self assure jewel thief. She does fit the role if she is played as a neurotic or nervous individual who ends up stalking Batman.
