I have to say, Sheen has had a good run so far of staying on top while embracing the bottom, but it can only last so long.
But as the dust settles on his departure from Two and a Half Men, we now get wind of a rumour that suggests producer Chuck Lorre has a plan to relaunch the show without Sheen.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that series co-creator Chuck Lorre has hatched an idea to reboot the Warner Bros.-produced sitcom with a new creative direction that does not involve Sheen, who was fired from the series in March. Lorre is said to have presented close associates and Men co-star Jon Cryer with the plan, and the studio and network are aware of his intentions. According to an insider, Lorre has told Cryer this reboot would involve a significant role for him and the introduction of a new, yet-to-be-cast character.
This would not be the first time that something outside of the show’s reality has changed a standing situation.
Valerie, an 80s sitcom that featured Jason Bateman lost its title character and moved forward as The Hogan Family. 8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter incorporated John Ritter’s death as his character’s untimely demise and moved forward with the show as well. I liked how they tried to make Scrubs 2.0 work, but it just didn’t have the staying power.
The bigger question will be if the show will have enough charm and staying power to move on without Sheen. That all depends on the angle they go with and this yet to be announced co-star. You can check Kandi on Two and a Half Men which is April’s best performance.
I could see the show shifting its “Two and a Half Men” to have Cryer actually having a life for once and the other “Man” being his son. However that will take some magic as I never found that kid to be anything other than a prop, and the older he gets, the less important it is that he is around.
The statement seems to blur the lines between the words reboot and relaunch. Reboot implies starting over ignoring the previous version, so this sounds more like it might be a relaunch.
Time will tell if Two and a Half Men has any charm without its Tigerblood.
