When they revealed the new Wonder Woman Costume for the TV series staring Adrienne Palecki, fans were instantly crapping on it. Honestly they could have made it EXACTLY like the comics and fans would likely be all over it saying it didn’t translate well to real life.
But they are still tweaking the pilot and word has it now that the bootyshorts version will make an appearance in the episode.
Movieweb quotes NBC Prez Robert Greenblatt:
“There was an initial outcry about the long pants – you know, skintight pants as opposed to those little shorts [worn by Lynda Carter in the original TV series]. But the shorts were always planned. They are actually used in the final confrontation when she beats Veronica Cale (played by Elizabeth Hurley). We haven’t made any changes from what was planned. But it’s always good to hear the feedback. I’d rather have people really passionately engaged in conversation, even if they hate something, than be kind of bored.”
This is a tough pickle for the producers of this show. Before we even see a teaser trailer the entire production is unfairly being predicted as a failure and much of the buzz is around the costume.
Bending to the pressure of the fan base, they changed the boots to a more practical non-heeled style, and made them Red as the fans demanded. But the rabid fanboys were still upset that this Exec turned superhero wasn’t wearing lingerie in her fight against crime. The stylized corset just wasn’t enough.
I think the only thing wrong with the costume is that ANYONE who decided to fight crime in a real world wouldn’t choose lingerie – no matter what the character in the comics wore. Strazinski’s version is solid and translates well and still maintains the traditional corset.
So now they are admitting that the bootyshorts were always in the plans, and that they were waiting to reveal them later in the development of the show. How are we supposed to believe that? Maybe they were always there as a nod to the original costume. Maybe they are adding it now to appease the rabid fans determined to hate this.
Yes, in the epic battle against the superhot Elizabeth Hurley, the evening gown match would result in the two battling it out in their skivvies.
