Paul WS Anderson Will Destroy Pompeii

So, what’s next for Paul WS Anderson after his Musketeers flick? He wants Mount Vesivous to erupt and bury ancient Pompeii, that’s what… Variety reports:

Anderson will direct and produce with Impact Pictures’ Jeremy Bolt and Constantin’s Robert Kulzer. German-based Constantin will finance and produce “Pompeii” while Summit will distribute domestically and start selling foreign markets at Cannes.

“Pompeii,” scripted by Lee Batchler and Janet Scott Batchler, will center around the romance between a slave and the daughter of the slave’s master amid the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79 and destruction of Pompeii. No actors have been cast and no start date’s been set.

Roman Polanski wanted to do a Pompeii film about four years ago, but due many factors that plug was pulled. While it isn’t said if the script is the same one or something related to that dead project, Constantin was one of the investors in Polanski’s planned film.

Polanski (regardless of what we think of his past) and Anderson could not be more polar opposites when it comes to directing style. It might be interesting to see how Anderson handles this kind of film without it being based on a videogame or having a song by TOMANDANDY. You might think I’m joking about that, but with his Resident Evil team coming with him, you got to wonder…I mean, okay, it might not be that bad. It would be a challenging project for the AvP director. Who knows- maybe after his Three Musketeers film he’s looking for a little prestige…

Anyone interested in a volcano film? At least we’ll get that and a little sword and sandals…
