Originally set for release on June 29, 2012, Deadline reports that Star Trek 2 will likely beam down to a date around the holiday season later that year. With J.J. Abrams busy with Super 8 (and still iffy on if he’ll even return for the big budget, sci-fi sequel), prep on the film has been chugging along at a sloth’s pace, with a concrete script yet to be turned in.
The writers on Trek 2 have been busy in their own right: Alex Kurtzman went off and directed the dramedy Welcome to the People, Robert Orci is overseeing the new adaptation of Ender’s Game and Lost’s Damon Lindelof rewrote Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, which evolved into its own time-consuming monster.
There was a lot of speculation what the follow up sequel to the relaunch would shape up to be. But it seems to me that nobody can come up with a storyline that everyone can agree on – with the only option is to roll with what they have–which in my view IS the best thing. I don’t know what it is, but it is time to either work with what you have or pass it on to another writer and/or director. Either you want to do it or you don’t. Either you will do it or you won’t. There is no grey area.
What do the int’l friends think? Cause for alarm? This is Paramount we’re talkin’ about. Remember the last time a problem like this occured? It was called Transformers 2.
