Ray Stevenson joins G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes

Ray Stevenson needs little to no introduction around here. The man played the Punisher! If that wasn’t impressive enough, and it is, he’s also adding another character to his resume that resonates well with me. A bad guy in G.I. Joe named Firefly!

THR has learned that Ray Stevenson has been cast in the blockbuster sequel as Firefly, a mercenary and explosives expert that works under the Cobra organization. The actor is yet another in a long line of newcomers to the franchise, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Elodie Yung, RZA and D.J. Cotrona. Channing Tatum, Ray Park and Lee Byung-hun will be reprising their roles from the first film as Duke, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, respectively. The film is being directed by Jon Chu, best known for the last two Step Up movies, and is scheduled to begin filming later this summer. G.I. Joe 2 hits theaters on August 10, 2012.

All in all this cast is really starting the shape up. Lot’s of familiar faces are missing, but the new familiar faces are fitting in quite nicely. I’m not sure of the scope of Stevenson’s role, but I’m increasingly interested in this movie with every casting announcement. Looking forward to sharing more info when it become available…
