‘Werewolf’ Gets Director – And There Is No Cause For Alarm

As I posted here a month or so ago, Universal is making a follow up of sorts to 2010’s dud ‘The Wolfman’ only it is named ‘Werewolf’ and it has more in common with the 1940s Wolfman. So they say. But today a director has been named, and I suspect that it tells us the fate of this new movie.

Cinemablend reports:

Louis Morneau has been hired to helm the new lycanthrope movie for the studio. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, it’s likely because you don’t spend a lot of your time watching B-grade horror movies. Morneau’s previous credits include direct-to-DVD sequels Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead and The Hitcher II : I’ve Been Waiting, as well as the Lou Diamond Phillips-starring thriller Bats and the John Belushi-starring time-travel movie Retroactive. The studio is planning to put the film into production this fall and the search has begun to find a cast.

In a way, it may be a good thing because as far as DTV goes, most content is bad cheese. But every now and then we get some good colby jack, you know what I mean? I think it is safe to make the guess that this film is planned for a DTV release giving the director’s credentials. I could be wrong and they could go theatrical, but I doubt it. My confiedence isn’t that high though. My only request is that while the possibility of DTV has increased tenfold, I hope the studio and the producers don’t treat the project with kid gloves. The last thing I want to see is a bad CG werewolf/wolfman. Comprede?

What’s your deduction, int’l friends? Will Werewolf see the inside of a movie theatre…or the inside of your living room?
