Josh Brolin has been cast as the lead in “Oldboy,” a remake of the 2003 Korean revenge thriller from director Park Chan-wook. The new movie will be directed by Spike Lee from a script by Mark Protosevich. The plan is to begin filming early next year.

The story centers on a man who is kidnapped on his daughter’s birthday and held for 15 years in solitary confinement without explanation. He is eventually released and sets out on a path to take revenge on those who destroyed his life.

I’m quietly looking forward to this movie. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this movie and enjoy Spike Lee’s movies so I’m expecting an amalgamation of the weird and the cool that others have described. Josh Brolin is an interesting choice and I’ll wait until I see something from his performance before I split hairs and Judge. It’s hard when I remember that Will Smith and Christian Bale were both considered for this same role but I’ll try my best.
