Ayelet Zurer is NOW in Man of Steel

Replacing Julia Ormond as Kal-El’s biological mom Lara-Lor-Van no-less. The news is making the rounds on the internet, leaving jaws hanging to the floor in its wake.

Back in June we had learned that Julia Ormond, who was most recently seen in the Emmy winning TV movie Temple Grandin and the Sundance selected The Music Never Stopped, had snagged the role of the Big Blue Boy Scout’s Kryptonian mother Lara Lor-Van in Man of Steel. Well, while the film is in the middle of production, a last minute casting change has taken place as Deadline reports Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer, who has been seen in Angels & Demons and Munich, will star opposite Russell Crowe as Superman’s birth mother. No reason has been given for the change, but Zurer starts filming this week.

The news comes as a bit of a surprise considering that the movie is well into production, had seemingly procured the all-star cast needed to set this movie apart from the others, oh and by the way she begins filming THIS WEEK.

I can’t imagine what caused the need for a replacement but I guess I should take solace in that she wasn’t really expected to be in the film too much. I mean, she kinda gets caught in an exploding planet furing Superman’s infancy so I guess this could be considered a minor change, no? It doesn’t change my perspective of the film in the slightest and I’m still looking forward to this film making its release in 2013.
